Royal Baker was born August 26, 1890 in Osnabruck Centre, Ontario. His induction into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame was sponsored by the Long Sault and Cornwall Legions. His induction was for the sports of angling and hunting.

He was a Games and Fisheries Overseer, and Fish and Wildlife Inspector for the Cornwall and Cornwall Township area from December 27, 1921 until his death at Cornwall in 1954. He was a member of several service clubs, and several Fish and Wildlife Clubs.

He served in World War I, and he signed his attestation paper for the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force on November 11, 1914 at Kingston, Ontario.

Mr. Jim Brownell who is the President of the Lost Villages Historical Society has confirmed that sometime after 1992, Royal Baker’s step-daughter Marion Weatherhead, a teacher at Memorial Park Public School in Cornwall, petitioned the Federal Government to have the un-named island, just off MacDonell Island, named in honour of her step-father Royal Baker. Mr. Brownell wrote a letter of support from the Lost Villages Historical Society.
