Henry Blanchard
Sport: Football
Year Inducted: 1990

Henry Blanchard starred as a hard-throwing quarterback with St. Lawrence High School in the 1960s, an era when the grid game was at its peak in the city.

Blanchard’s post high school career was with the Cornwall Chargers of the Provincial Junior Football League.

Henry was a slender crafty speedster, and had the spectacular ability to thread his way through a defensive line or shoot around the end with the quickness of a thoroughbred in full stride.

In a 1964 Eastern Ontario Secondary School Association Championship season at St. Lawrence, Blanchard was a constant threat. It was his first of three seasons as the Saints’ main offensive threat.

He finished his high school career in 1964 with another EOSSA Championship team.

Blanchard was just as quick off the football field. He was a talented sprinter and in his graduation year was named Outstanding Athlete at SLHS.

After missing a year of football, Blanchard returned to the gridiron with the Junior Chargers.

He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, beating out five players who went on to play in the Canadian Football League.
