A native of this area, Brian McCartney lived in the former Milles Roches until 1956, at which point his family moved to Cornwall. He is a graduate from Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School and the former Ottawa Teacher’s College. He also received his specialist certificate in vocal and instrumental music at the Faculty of Education at the University of Toronto.

He commenced his teaching career at Central Public School; he later became Head of Performing Arts at his alma mater, CCVS. Brian is well known for his musical accomplishments at the district, provincial, national and international level.

Some of his achievements include being a member of the Canadian lawn bowling team, as well as representing Canada in the World Lawn Bowling Tournament. He has won the Provincial Championship and has participated and placed in several Ontario Summer Games.

He virtually owned the District Champion title from 1974 until 1986. When lawn bowling ceased to be played in Cornwall, Brain began playing in Oshawa, where he has been District Champion ever since (2002). He was the Governor General’s Trophy Champion on three different occasions.

His list includes: Ontario and Canadian Championships – 1985 Ontario Pairs and gold at Canadian Pairs, undefeated at the Canadian Championships; 1988 Ontario Fours Champions, silver medal at the Canadian Championships; 2007 Ontario Fours “A” Champions, silver medal at the Canadian Championships; 2010 Ontario Fours “B” Champions.

He has many major tournament wins at the Western Ontario Bowling Tournament, the largest tournament in Canada. Brian has won Championships there in singles, pairs, triples and fours.

Brian served several years as the manager of the Canadian Lawn Bowling Team.
