George J. (Sox) Collins

George J. Collins, born January 6, 1909, and also known as “Sox” played and refereed lacrosse.
Sox played field lacrosse for the North Stars, Courtaulds, and Cornwall Seniors.
Sox played professional box lacrosse for Cornwall in 1931. He was considered the best lacrosse referee in and around Cornwall. He handled the lacrosse OLA playdowns for years. Sox was fearless, and was in big demand in lacrosse for refereeing play-offs.
Sox also played baseball for Ives Bedding, and hockey for Cornwall Colts and out of Cornwall teams. Sox always gave his best at all the sports he played.
He died April 26, 1988.
