Golf Championships and Rick Martin are a good fit.
The Cornwall Golf and Country Club member won his first Cornwall Go1f and Country Club Championship at the tender age of 18, the youngest person to ever win the club Championship.
Since then, Martin has added four club titles. Only two other members have won more Cornwall Club Championships.
Richard Greer, who has rubbed elbows with Martin on the golf links for the past 30 years, describes Martin as the “consummate playing partner.”
Martin’s accomplishments on the links include club Championships in three different decades, a feat equaled by only two other players.
His tie for fourth in the 1981 Quebec Amateur is the highest finish in the provincial amateur by a member of the Cornwall Golf and Country Club.
The highlight of his many four-ball and scramble victories with partner Richard Greer is the record setting 62 they shot to win the 1984 Quebec Provincial Four-Ball Championship.
His first Quebec Golf Association victory came in 1981 in the Montreal District Spring “A” Championship at Lorraine Golf Club.
He is the only Cornwall Golf and Country Club member – with victories in 1981, 1987, and 1996 – to win the Cornwall Open “A” class title three times.
He is a perennial member of Cornwall Golf and Country Club’s Intersectional, St. Lawrence and Border League teams. He was a member of Cornwall’s last victorious St. Lawrence team in 1979. He has been the low individual on two occasions at the Border League Tournament and a member of several winning teams.
He has won numerous invitationals, including 1975 St. Zotique Open, 1981 Prescott Open, and 1999 Alexandria Open.
