Robert (Rob) Taylor
Sport: Basketball
Year Inducted: 2002

Robert “Rob” Taylor made the quantum leap from the high school basketball courts to the university level where he became one of the dominant players in the Ontario University Basketball League.

Rob’s outstanding four-year career with the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees followed a star-studded career with the Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School Raiders. He became one of a handful of S.D. & G. high school graduates to make it as a starter in Canada’s top university hoop circuit.

Playing at CCVS under coaches Joe Sanborn and Chuck Stewart, Rob was a key component of teams which claimed four S.D. & G. Championships, and as many EOSSA titles. In his final season with the Raiders he averaged 24 points a game.

In 1980, he was selected to play for the Eastern Ontario All-Star squad which captured the Ontario Junior Basketball Championship.

In his first two years with the Golden Raiders, Rob was selected Athlete of the Year, and named the Lions Club Basketball Player of the Year.

After being scouted by several university basketball programs, he selected U of O where he enrolled in the electrical engineering program. Rob was an instant starter, averaging 13 points a game in his rookie season.

In his four seasons with the Gee-Gees, he was an Ontario university league All-Star three times. In all four years he was the leading rebounder and leading scorer (averaging 17 points a game). He was team captain and named Most Valuable Player in each of his last two seasons. Before his last game in a Gee-Gee uniform, Rob was honoured in a special ceremony for his exceptional contribution to the school basketball program.
