Mark Timpany
Sport: Football
Year Inducted: 1990
Mark Timpany played football with the Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School Raiders.
Timpany was more than the Raiders’ field general in the 1962 and 1963 seasons. He was arguably the team’s heart and soul who drove himself to the limit and then stepped beyond.
The son of a Baptist minister, he managed to cling to “old fashion” ideals in a time when such things were beginning to be challenged yet he maintained the respect of those with whom he came in contact.
An Ontario scholar, he enrolled at Hamilton’s McMaster University, and become a freshman starter.
Timpany and McMaster did much better than expected. The rookie QB led McMaster to an undefeated season and league Championship.
No one should have been surprised when Timpany unselfishly committed himself to a final season at a new position.
In one game, he ran back a punt for 95 yards.
McMaster won a league Championship, and the Atlantic Bowl in Halifax. In the National Championship, McMaster lost to the University of Alberta Bears by one point.
