Donald David (Dave) Dorman

Donald David “Dave” Dorman’s interest in sports and in particular track and field dates back to his school days in Smith Falls. His specialties were high jump and long jump.

In 1960, he set an EOSSA long jump record at a Kingston meet of 6.6 meters.

In 1961, at a Montreal meet, Dave established a Canadian Schoolboy high jump record of 6 feet 3 inches.

Dave attended McMaster University and RMC in Kingston and continued his track career for these schools.

His training and competition at the University level led to a first place finishes in the Canadian Decathlon Championship in 67 and 68. His 1967 Championship resulted in a place on the Pan Am Games team, and a fourth place finish in the Pan Games held in Winnipeg.

From 1969 to present, Dave has spent countless hours organizing and coaching track and field clubs in the Cornwall area.

His organization skills resulted in the formation of the Canadian Legion Track and Field Club, the Cougars. He also annually organized the SD&G Elementary Legion Supra-Meet and the Provincial Multiple Event Meet.

His coaching skills have brought distinction to many local athletes such as a bronze medal in discus for John-David Dorman, and a silver medal in High Jump for Raymond Seguin both at the Canadian Junior Championships.

Dave died on November 17, 2008 at the age 66.
