Kenneth “Ken” Payne’s brilliant softball career spanned three decades, and he was still playing fastball when he died in 1989.

Payne honed his infield skills in minor ball, and in the early 1960s was a member of the Cornwall Hodgins Huskies which won the Ontario Juvenile Softball Championship.

The infield was the heart and soul of the Huskies and a key member was Payne, who had great range, left and right, combined with a powerful, accurate throwing arm.

Payne joined Domtar’s Industrial League teams of the late 1960s, and was instrumental in league and playoff Championships.

His career in the 1970s and ’80s took him to the John Denneny Fastball League, and Sportsmen Softabll League.

Payne’s atheltic talent was not limited to the ball diamond. He was an avid golfer, and capable curler.
