William (Bill) Mathieson Raeside

William “Bill” Mathieson Raeside was born in Scotland on December 05, 1908, moving to Cornwall in 1934.

He immediately started curling at the arena until the curling club on Amelia Street was built. Along with becoming a competitive curler he found time to give lessons at the Cornwall Curling Club.

Bill won most of the major trophies at the club. From 1948 to 1967, he won the Dingwall Trophy twice, the MacLennan Trophy twice, the Crabtree Trophy twice, and the Ice-Box, Standard-Freeholder, Beach, Contractors, President’s, Dover, and Rankin Trophies.

Bill was an organizer of a very popular annual Montreal – Ottawa Bonspiel held at the club.

He died December 26, 2000.
