Charles “Chuck” Stewart began his high school coaching career in 1970 when he took over the coaching of the junior boys basketball program at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School.

For the following thirty-three years, he coached both boys and girls varsity teams at both junior and senior levels producing numerous Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and Eastern Ontario Secondary School Athletics Association Championships. These included, in the early 1980s, a juvenile girls’ Ontario Championship.

Meanwhile, he held a full time position as Science teacher and was, for many years, the Head of the Science Department at the school.

For many years, Chuck has run basketball camps for high school students and prospective high schoolers, both male and female. He has also been a guest instructor for several basketball camps in New York State.

Chuck also became involved with the United Counties basketball mini-league for which he not only helped out in the weekend training, but also served on the executive including two terms as President.

In 1992, as part of the Lions Club’s Annual Awards, he received their Basketball Award.

As head coach of the senior girls’ program from 1983 to 1994, he guided his Golden Raiders to several S. D. & G. and EOSSA Championships including a third place finish in the Ontario Championships in 1986.

After retiring from teaching in 1998, Chuck maintained his position as coach of the Golden Raiders senior boys’ basketball team stll looking for that elusive Provincial senior boys’ basketball title.
