Sean’s refereeing interest started as a teen and has continued to this day. He progressed through the Hockey Canada Officiating Program, achieving the highest level of certification as a Level 6 Referee in 1993. He has an impressive resume of local, regional, national, and international experience, including local minor hockey, CHL, OHL, CIAU, AHL, NHL preseason, and pre-Olympic IIHF. He has contributed to the Hockey Canada officiating educational program and is credited with introducing the “MOTO” acronym to assist officials in applying penalty procedures with multiple coincidental penalties, an acronym that is referenced in the Hockey Canada Casebook/Rulebook.
Sean has also had tremendous success in coaching men’s and women’s hockey at St. Lawrence College in Cornwall for 17 years, helping establish both as premier programmes in Ontario college hockey. Under his guidance both teams have made multiple appearances at the Ontario Challenge Cup Series Championships winning Men’s titles in 2010/2011 and 2015/2016 and consecutive Women’s titles in 2013/14 and 2014/2015.
