Joseph Contant

Joseph Contant began his hockey career in 1924, playing with the Howard Smith Paper Mill in the Cornwall City Hockey League.
He played for the Canadiens of the City League in 1925 and 1926, winning the Championship and most valuable player award in 1926. While playing for the Cornwall Canadiens, Joseph also played for the Cornwall OHA team, which won the Eastern Championship for two straight years.
In 1927, Joseph turned professional and played for the Boston Tigers of the Canadian American Hockey League, winning the Championship in the first year. In 1929, he joined the Quebec Beavers of the Eastern Canada Hockey Association, which also won the Championship that year. In 1931, Joseph joined the Three Rivers Fox team of the same Eastern League.
A versatile athlete, Joseph excelled at lacrosse, playing professionally for the Cornwall Colts in 1931. Drafted by the Montreal Maroons Lacrosse team in 1932, he made the second All-Star team under coach Newsy Lalonde. The All-Star team toured the USA.
Upon retirement from active sports, Joseph coached hockey and softball for the Canadian Cottons.
