Mike Conway

Mike Conway’s hockey resume spans more than three decades.
Mike is better known in hockey circles by his nickname “Crusher”.
Mike was a member of the Cornwall Royals for three seasons beginning in 1972-73 amassing 15 goals, 86 assists and 291 penalty minutes. He spent his final two years wearing a letter on his jersey as assistant captain in 1973-74 and captain in 1974-75.
In 1975, he earned a Hockey Canada Scholarship for academic and sports excellence at a time that there were very few scholarships available.
Mike spent three years as McMaster University’s team captain while being named an Ontario OUAA All Star twice.
Mike’s University career wrapped up with a season with him wearing the Captain’s “C” at Queen’s in Kingston.
Continuing the tradition of being the leader on just about every team he played on, Mike also captained the 1981 Cornwall Flyers Senior team.
Mike gave back to junior hockey by working as an assistant coach with the Cornwall Colts from 2001 to 2004.
Like most other athletes in the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame, Mike’s athletic prowess transferred to success in other sports including being the quarterback on the Minor Bantam team won the Ontario Championship as well as being a key member of the finalist and semi-finalist teams from Cornwall that competed for the National Championship Intermediate “A” title.
Mike was also a member of the men’s ball hockey team that competed in the Ontario Championships in 1988.
Add a lacrosse Championship as a member of his team that won the Bantam Golden Horseshoe tournament in 1969 and it’s easy to add Mike to the Hall.
Mike Conway joins his father Rusty Conway who was inducted for Softball as a member of the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame Class of 1975.
Mike died at the age of 68 on June 3, 2024
