Bernie Costello
Sport: Hockey:   Year Inducted: 1977

Bernie Costello was one of the best all-round athletes while attending Cornwall Collegiate during the period 1924-28 where he was a dominant figure in football, basketball and particularly hockey.

In those days, the only covered rink in the Cornwall area was the old Victoria Arena on Third Street with natural ice. Bernie developed his hockey skills on the ponds, creeks and open-air rinks. Only two of the rinks had sideboards and were lighted with bare bulbs strung overhead.

He was first line centre on the team which advanced to the Eastern Ontario Finals. A newspaper quote related Cornwall Centre, Bernie Costello, was the outstanding player on the ice scoring two goals to lead his team to a 3-2 victory over Kingston. The same year he played C.C.Grads in the Cornwall District Senior League leading them to the Championship.

Upon graduation in 1929, he went to Montreal to work for the C.P.R. where he continued to play hockey and basketball for several years.
