Leonard (Len) Dover

Leonard “Len” Dover, born in 1916, was one of Cornwall’s finest all-round athletes during the 1930’s.

He was an outstanding softball player, always among the top hitters.

His exceptional speed and ability to think quickly made him a most feared base runner. He played every position on the team except pitcher, but particularly excelled at third base. He led his team, the CCVS grads, to four straight city league Championships from 1931 through 1934. He then played with Howard Smith Championship teams.

In addition to his softball prowess, he was a top-notch hockey goalie with Dover’s juvenile team, undefeated Champions for two years; Holy Name’s famous junior Ottawa District and Citizen Shield Winners, C.C.V.S. E.O.S.S.A. Champions and Ontario secondary school finalists. He was an All-Star American college goalie with Clarkson Tech.

Len starred in every sport in which he participated including track and field as a sprinter, basketball as a high scoring centre, box lacrosse as a rover, and baseball as an infielder
