Eric Harps
Sport: Broomball
Year Inducted: 2010

Whether it’s on the floor or in the board room Eric Harps signifies what broomball in Cornwall is all about.

As a player in the mid-to-late 60’s, Eric was a defenseman who played the game with passion.

But Eric’s true calling would be on the organizational side of the ball.

By 1970, Eric was the President of the Seaway Valley Broomball League. He was the key figure as the SVBL merged with the JOC League to form the Cornwall Regional Broomball Association in 1981.

Eric was President of that Association until 1992.

In between, he was Vice President of the Ontario Broomball Association from 1975-85.

One of the highlights of Eric’s career was serving as Executive Director of the highly successful Canadian Broomball Championships held in Cornwall – the host team won the Men’s Championship.

The Canadian Championships were followed up with the 1986 Ontario Broomball Championships in Cornwall – which Eric was also the Executive Director.

Not only could Eric organize highly success championship tournaments, he could coach too.

He guided the 1982 the Laframboise Dukes in ball hockey and led them to the Eastern Ontario Championships where they captured Gold.

Eric was the 1982 recipient of the Jacques Richard Trophy at the Cornwall Lions Club Sports Awards as Cornwall and area’s Top Sports Personality.

As he’s inducted with the Class of 2010, Eric Harps joins his son, Steven as a member of the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame.
