Joseph (Joe) Merpaw

Joseph “Joe” Merpaw played with the Senior North Stars of the S.D.& G County League, winning lacrosse Championships in 1923-24.
He then played the 1925 and 1926 seasons with Courtaulds in the Montreal Senior League.
Upon the formation of Canadian professional box lacrosse in 1931, he joined the Cornwall team to play against such outstanding athletes as Lionel Conacher and Nels Stewart.
His hockey career found him playing on Championship junior teams such as the Bluebirds, Holy Name Society, and Cornwall Collegiate. He then played senior hockey with the North Stars and Cornwall Street Railway. He also played with Russell and Spencerville of the Ottawa Valley Senior League.
Joe also played football for Cornwall under the famous “Irish” Monahan in the Ontario/Quebec Rugby Football Union.
