Claire Sauve-Boisvenue
Sport: Broomball
Year Inducted: 2006

Claire Sauve-Boisvenue was right at home with a broom in her hand, not in the kitchen but on the ice playing broomball. She was one of Cornwall’s top notch female broomball players in an era when the sport was riding a wave of popularity.

The Cornwall native laid the foundations for a long and fruitful broomball career in the Cornwall Recreational Department Broomball Association from 1972 to 1977. She also starred with the General Vanier Secondary School squad.

During that time Claire helped her team win the Cornwall “A” Division Championship, and the 1975 Embrun Tournament Championship. That same year, the Cornwall club lost in the “A” Division final of the Ottawa Winter Carnival Tournament.

From 1980 to 1992, she played in the Ontario Broomball Association’s powerful Eastern Ontario Broomball Association which was a hotbed for broomball talent in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Between 1982 and 1990, Claire played in six Canadian Championships, five of them consecutively. Her National Championship medal collection is made up of one gold (1989), a pair of silvers (1988 and 1990), and two bronzes (1986 and 1987).

Her Provincial medal haul includes four gold, and one silver. In Eastern Ontario Regional play, she has four gold medals, and silver, and bronze twice.

As if playing wasn’t enough, Sauve-Boisvenue became a certified Eastern Ontario Broomball Association referee. She was EOBA referee-in-chief in 1988 and 1989. From 1987 to 1990, she was a Provincial official.
