James Alfred (Nit) Wilson
Sport: Lacrosse
Year Inducted: 1990
The Eastern Ontario Lacrosse League had been a breeding ground for local talent. A history of Cornwall sports legends would be anything but complete without the likes of Zip Jamieson, the Wheeler brothers, George Sinfield, the Roundpoints, Jacobs, Sundays, and Thomas’. However, there has seldom been a player with the ability to dominate the sport both defensively and offensively with the competitive ease as James Alfred “Nit” Wilson.
With shifty speed, the diminutive winger, turned sensational goaltender, earned MVP status on the many teams he played.
Nit earned a variety of nicknames as a prolific playmaker for the Samsons, Pontiacs, and St. Regis Indians to name a few.
Also known as the “Greyhound” and the “Eel” he contributed to the scoring prowess of Gabe and Tony Wheeler, Zip Jamieson and his brother Gib Wilson. At the same time, he would don the pads and in sensational fashion, shut-down the offensive potential of the Roundpoints and the Sundays.
Nit was so respected by his peers; he was invited to play with the fine St. Regis Indian team of the 50’s and 60’s, with such players as Angus Thomas, Peter Burns, Enos Hemlock, the Sundays, and the Roundpoints.
