Gerry McKenna is one of the strongest contributors in a very large group of volunteers involved with the Cornwall Curling Centre.
The success and growth of curling and the Centre in Cornwall is due to his volunteer spirit.
Gerry has contributed from the highest level to the success of bonspiels and the leagues as well as dealing with building issues throughout the curling season.
One of the tasks Gerry leads is the daily reporting of the seniors draws which usually consist of 40 teams or more.
It’s been said that without Gerry, the annual Cornwall Men’s Open Bonspiel, which is into its third decade, would be nearly the success it is. This event is considered one of the best in Eastern Ontario and Quebec by those in curling circles.
Gerry is past President of the Cornwall Curling Club and won the 2007 Curling Member of the Year at the Cornwall Lions Club Sports Awards.
Gerry has set the bar on how to run an event, draw, fundraising dinner or a bonspiel at the Cornwall Curling Centre.
